Job Description

Position Summary

The EYFS Nursery Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences that promote each child’s overall development. The teacher will create a caring and stimulating classroom environment where children feel secure, valued, and encouraged to explore.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues and parents to ensure every child reaches their full potential while maintaining the highest standards of safeguarding, professionalism, and care.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging EYFS lessons and activities.
  • Create stimulating learning environments that encourage curiosity, creativity, and independence.
  • Support children’s development across all EYFS areas of learning.
  • Use play-based learning to promote exploration and discovery.
  • Adapt teaching to meet the individual needs of each child.
  • Encourage positive behaviour using respectful and age-appropriate strategies.
  • Foster children’s confidence, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Child Development

  • Observe and assess children’s progress regularly.
  • Maintain accurate developmental records and learning journals.
  • Identify children who may require additional support and communicate concerns appropriately.
  • Support children’s emotional wellbeing and social development.
  • Celebrate children’s achievements and milestones.

Classroom Environment

  • Maintain a safe, clean, organised, and welcoming classroom.
  • Prepare learning materials before lessons.
  • Set up engaging learning centres and play stations.
  • Ensure all classroom resources are well maintained.
  • Promote independence through organised classroom routines.

Safeguarding and Welfare

  • Ensure children’s safety and well-being at all times.
  • Follow all safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play.
  • Assist with meal times, toileting, hygiene, and rest periods where appropriate.
  • Report any accidents, incidents, illnesses, or safeguarding concerns immediately.

School Community

  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow teachers and support staff.
  • Participate in school events, celebrations, open days, and community activities.
  • Uphold the values and reputation of Tiny Acorns at all times.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Complete weekly lesson plans.
  • Prepare classroom displays.
  • Maintain attendance records.
  • Complete assessments and progress reports on schedule.
  • Assist with classroom inventory and resource management.
  • Keep classroom documentation organised and up to date.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree or NCE in Early Childhood Education, Education, or a related field.
  • Sound understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Experience working with children aged 1–5 years.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Passion for early childhood education.

Preferred

  • EYFS certification or training.
  • Paediatric First Aid certification.

Monday – Friday

7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
